Program
DAY 1: SATURDAY Bregenz
In Bregenz, you will be awaited by the superbly located and modern furnished Grand Hotel MGallery****. The old town of Bregenz and the Lake Constance shore are only a few minutes away on foot. We will meet together in the hotel lobby at 6:30pm. We will then enjoy our first dinner together.
DAY 2: SUNDAY Lake Constance and mountain pastures (45 km)
After our bikes have been adjusted, we will leave the awakening Bregenz along the lake shore. Travelling on desolate paths, we will cycle through the Lauteracher Ried, the habitat of numerous species of birds, to Dornbirn. In order to avoid travelling on a busy road, we will travel several kilometres by bus, which takes us to Alberschwende. Here we can enjoy a dream-like view of the Bregenz Forest, with its charming hills and imposing mountains. From Alberschwende, a 15-kilometre-long descent leads along the Bregenzer Ache back to our hotel. Before having dinner together, we will take a stroll through the old town of Bregenz, in order to familiarise ourselves with the localities.
DAY 3: MONDAY Swiss Rhine valley (SG) and the Principality Liechtenstein (46 km)
In the morning, we will travel by train into the Swiss Rhine valley to Salez – Sennwald. Our cycling route leads southwards on intricate paths. During the entire cycling tour, we can enjoy fantastic views from the valley floor of the mountain world of the St. Gallen and Graubünden cantons, as well as the Rätikon. Around noon, we will cross the Rhine and hereby the border between Switzerland and the principality Liechtenstein. Soon afterwards, we will reach Vaduz, the principality’s capital. After a stroll through the town centre, our cycling route will lead us on desolate paths to Feldkirch. The „secret capital“ of Vorarlberg was significantly characterised by the noble family Montfort, who left their mark in the cityscape. From Feldkirch, we will take the train back to Bregenz. We will enjoy our dinner together.
DAY 4: TUESDAY Allgäu region (49 km)
Today we will travel by bus for 30 minutes to Lindenberg im Allgäu. We can enjoy the view of the charming landscape, before we leave Lindenberg via a former railway line, which was converted into a cycle path. We will reach Wangen im Allgäu in the late morning, with its lovingly restored old town. After a stroll through the small town, we travel southwards, following the Leiblbachtal, until we reach Lake Constance in the late afternoon and follow the shore up to Bregenz. We will have dinner in a restaurant popular with the locals.
DAY 5: WEDNESDAY St. Gallen – southern Lake Constance (46 km)
In the morning, we will travel by train to St. Gallen, the cultural centre of eastern Switzerland. The former wealth of the town’s inhabitants is particularly reflected by the over hundred magnificent richly adorned oriel windows. During a guided tour, we will visit the historic town centre and the Stiftskirche (collegiate church) with its imposing Stiftsbibliothek (library). Our bicycles await us at the village border of St. Gallen. With Lake Constance in view, our route leads gently downhill to Goldach. After a somewhat challenging ascent, we follow a mountain road with a splendid view of the lake. At Rheineck, we will reach the nature reserve Rheindelta, habitat to numerous species of birds such as the kingfisher or the milvus. Travelling on paths free of traffic, we will arrive back at our hotel in the late afternoon. You will have the evening to your own disposal.
DAY 6: THURSDAY Bregenz Forest (31 km)
In the morning, we will travel for approx. one hour by bus, and will arrive at Schoppernau in the Bregenz Forest. After the impressive mountain world, this corner of Vorarlberg is renowned for its excellent cheeses. During a tour through an alpine dairy, we can learn more about the distinctiveness of their mountain cheeses and can test the quality of their products during a cheese tasting. Today, our cycling route follows the railway line of the former Wälderbähnle almost throughout the entire day, which was converted into a cycle path several years ago. During our cycling tour, we will be accompanied by lush mountain meadows, the typical wooden houses, charming hills, and an impressive mountain landscape. Today our cycling tour ends in Egg. We will take the public bus back to Bregenz, where we can review the events of the day during dinner.
DAY 7: FRIDAY Northern Lake Constance – Lindau (26 km)
In the morning, we will travel by ship from Bregenz to Langenargen with its striking landmark, the Montfort castle, once the summer residence of King Wilhelm I. of Württemberg. During the journey by ship, we can enjoy a fantastic view in every direction, whether of coastal towns such as Lindau or of the Appenzeller Alps with the striking Säntis Mountain. In Langenargen, we will mount our bikes and travel on cycle paths past glamorous places such as Wasserburg or Nonnenhorn to Lindau. The insularity as well as the picturesque old town with its medieval houses bestow an extra special charm to the city. From Lindau, our route then leads primarily in close proximity to the lake shore back to Bregenz. We will have dinner together in a very special restaurant.
DAY 8: SATURDAY Bregenz
This morning we will enjoy a lavish breakfast at the hotel one last time, before departing on our journey home. As there is nothing on today’s programme, one can arrange one’s departure individually. ADDITIONAL NIGHTS
All prices are on request. We would like to point out that it might be cheaper if you book directly with the hotel due to daily rates.
