May 7th, 2020 - Update Coronavirus (COVID-19)

There is evidence that the situation improves. The measures that were taken to stop the virus from spreading are released little by little. In Austria and Germany hotels are allowed to reopen in the next few weeks. However, it is too early for a general all-clear signal.

As from the beginning of this pandemic, health and well-being of our guests and employees are most important to us. Because of this we cancelled all tours operated by Rotalis until June 19, 2020. We contact all corresponding guests but as we are working from home it is a bit more difficult. Because of this we ask you for your patience if the processing time is longer than usual.

We are sure that there will be a time when you can start your trips as you did before this crisis not least because of the bunch of measures which were taken to protect the people.

We are really looking forwards to the moments which come afterwards – when we can rejoice in life and pedal together through enchanting landscapes. Everything has something positive in it – we might now live even more conscious and attentively.

Take care!

March 27th, 2020 - Update Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The past few days, the number of COVID-19 diseases has continued to increase worldwide, especially in Europe. In addition to Italy, Spain is developing into a second massive hotspot.

Measures taken by governments and authorities around the world to curb the virus, such as curfews, business or border closures, pose very great challenges for everyone. The aim of the measures is to slow the spread of the virus in order to avoid the collapse of the health system, as in the case in parts of Lombardy or in parts of Spain.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, the safety, well-being and health of our guests and employees are top priorities. In the current situation it is not possible to perform our trips as usual. We already decided last week to cancel all trips until May 8th, 2020. The procedure published on March 18th and in the newsletter remains unchanged.

In order to best protect our employees from infection and still be able to maintain all work processes, 95% of the entire workforce currently work from home. For this reason, we have decided to adapt the office hours to the current situation. Until further notice, we can be reached by phone from 09:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. You are also welcome to contact us by email at any time.

We continue monitoring developments in the home and target countries very closely and provide you with latest information here.

Stay healthy!

March 18th, 2020 - Travel and the coronavirus (COVID-19)

Dear Rotalis guests,

I am sure that like me and my team, you are certainly following the developments regarding the coronavirus and its effects. Until a few days ago, the focus within Europe was primarily on Italy, but the virus has now spread rapidly. Many governments have taken drastic measures to curb or slow the spread of the virus.

Human health is a top priority and is the most worth protecting. We have therefore decided to cancel all of our trips until May 8th, 2020 as we cannot assume that the situation will normalize within a few days or weeks.

We will contact all guests booked on trips until May 8th, 2020. We ask for your patience, as human capacities are limited at the moment. On our homepage we also publish current developments and decisions regarding our trips: NEWS

We are optimistic that the situation will change positively over the next few weeks and months, due to the measures that have been taken to protect the population. Nevertheless, we are aware that there are numerous questions about how Rotalis will handle trips which begin after May 8th, 2020.

Below we answer frequently asked questions. If your question is not included, please do not hesitate to send us an e-mail.

What happens if Rotalis cancels my trip?

For all Rotalis trips that begin after May 8, 2020, we decide at least 35 days in advance whether security for guests and employees can be guaranteed or not. Since the beginning of the Corona epidemic, our decision has been based on measures and information from the following authorities, institutions and information sources:

Governments of home country and target country

Competent authorities and leading institutions (e.g. foreign office, Robert Koch Institute)

Feedback from local partners on site

If we have to decide to cancel the trip, you can choose between three options:

1. Free rebooking to a later date 2020 (only applies to Rotalis’s own tours)

2. Free rebooking to a date in 2021 (only applies to Rotalis’s own tours)

3. The reimbursement of the travel price (except insurance packages, flight services – only applies to Rotalis’s own tours)

Do I lose my deposit if the trip is canceled by Rotalis?

No, definitely not. If Rotalis cancels a trip, you will get your deposit back (except insurance packages, flight services or additional nights if applicable)

My booked trip will take place after May 8th, 2020 and I am unsure whether I should take part.

Given the current events and developments, we can understand this question very well. However, the situation will change permanently in the coming weeks, so that it is now difficult to estimate how the situation will develop in the respective countries.

That is why we want to keep the rebooking conditions as flexible as possible so that you have enough time to make the best decision for yourself.

You also have the option to rebook your trips starting in May to another date 2020 (depending on availability) by April 03rd, 2020. In this exceptional situation we refrain from rebooking fees.

Can I cancel my trip free of charge if it takes place after May 8th, 2020?

Any trip can be canceled at any time, but not free of charge. Our current cancellation fees apply to trips after May 8th, 2020.

What happens to my flights booked through Rotalis?

In the event of a cancellation by Rotalis, the costs for flights booked through us will be reimbursed.

What happens to my flights that I have booked myself?

We ask you to contact the respective airline. Numerous airlines continually adapt their cancellation and rebooking conditions to the current situation.

I have booked a partner tour through Rotalis. Do the same measures and decisions apply here as for Rotalis’s own tours?

Please note that the above information / measures only apply to Rotalis trips (= own tours). Different regulations apply to partner trips. The safety and health of guests and employees is also a top priority for our partners. Nevertheless, their decisions and measures may differ from ours. We will promptly inform guests who are booked on partner tours of any cancellations. If you have any questions about your partner trip, please contact us, as each case can be different.

In this difficult time, for us as a bike tour operator, it is important to take the right measures for everyone and to contribute together to ensure that the coronavirus and its consequences for health, society and the economy can be overcome in the best possible way.

Despite all the current adversities, we are optimistic about the future. Thanks to a team that is highly committed even in times of crisis, a strong conglomerate of the ARR Group (Rotalis, Velotours and Austria Radreisen) and above all because of our customers. Many of you have become regular guests over the years. We are aware that the latest news about the effects and spread of the coronavirus is causing concern. For this reason, we would like to thank you even more, for all your trust. Thank you for traveling with us.

Yours sincerely,

Daniel Gahleitner

(Managing Director of the ARR Group)

March 16th, 2020 - Current development

The situation concerning the coronavirus is currently changing every hour. Governments and responsible authorities in numerous European countries are implementing measures to contain the coronavirus.

The German foreign office, like the government of Austria and Switzerland, advises against unnecessary trips abroad. For this reason, we had to cancel all the planned trips until April 18th, 2020.

We will closely continue monitoring further developments. A trip will not be performed, if the safety of our guests and employees cannot be guaranteed anymore. The decision to cancel a trip is based on information and communication from the following bodies:

• Governments and their decisions

• Competent authorities (including foreign offices, Robert Koch Institute)

• Feedback from all local partners on site

The cancellation will at least be 5 weeks before the start of the trip. Should there be any restrictions by governments or authorities after this 5 week period, which leads to a short-term cancellation, we will contact the travel participants immediately.

March 11th, 2020 - further procedure

Depending on how the situation develops, we cancel our trips at least five weeks before the start of the trip, if due

  • to the corresponding recommendations of the responsible offices (Foreign office, Health institution) and

  • our ongoing monitoring of the regions concerned and

  • after evaluating the feedback from our partners on site,

the safety of our guests and employees cannot be guaranteed and therefore the trip cannot be carried out.

March 10th, 2020 - current corona spreading

We closely monitor further developments and act according to the situation. In the event of a travel warning, we will cancel our trips to the affected regions. As soon as entry restrictions become present, we will contact the affected guests immediately.

As a precaution, due to the current development in Italy we cancelled all trips up to including April 18.

March 09th, 2020 - Development of the corona infections in North Italy

As one can see from the media North Italy took further measures to keep the situation under control. Because of this, the Italian government declares a ban on travelling in and out of Lombardy and 14 other provinces. Some of them are part of our trips. However, at the moment there are not any Rotalis trips in this specific areas. The first tours in North Italy start in the middle of May, so we will keep track of the further development.

March 06th, 2020 - safety on our trips - coronavirus SARS-CoV-2

Health and well-being of our guests and employees are very important to us. Also that our trips are carried out in a safe environment. But, as one can see from the media the situation changes quite often. We regularly check all information by public authorities (for example the German Foreign Office, Robert Koch institute) and have regular follow-ups with our local partners.

Currently the German Foreign Office as well as the Robert Koch institute advises against travelling to the regions of Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Alto Adige and the city of V in Padua.

We have not planned any trips in these regions in the next two months. We closely observe the further development. If the situation gets worse, we will contact all guests concerned and take all necessary measures.
